Hunting the autumn foliage in the Verona province: 4 places to photograph the autumn season

Autumn is not just the season that leads to winter and Christmas, it is also the moment when nature gives us its best with colours that burst throughout the valleys – it is time for the autumn foliage!

This is in fact the unique moment during the autumn season to admire the autumnal change in tree colour with leaves that go from green to yellow and to various degrees of red.

To make the most of this natural moment during the life cycle of trees, it is best to choose a place with specific types of plants, including larches, oaks, birches, beeches and maples, without forgetting the vines!

We have chosen 4 wonderful places for you in the province of Verona which we think would be suitable to start your “hunt”:

1 – Lessinia, Valle delle Sfingi: The Lessinia Regional Park always deserves a visit, but it gives us its best during this autumn season. In particular, the Valle delle Sfingi is a true gem: a clearing with numerous limestone rocks of a peculiar shape known as “sfingi” (i.e. sphinxes) surrounded by beeches and shrubs. From here, you can also go on a hike to Rifugio Lausen where you can enjoy a typical plate of gnocchi. More info at: www.altalessinia.com

2 – Parco delle Cascate di Molina: located in Fumane, Valpolicella, a few kilometres from Verona and not far from Lake Garda. Deep gorges crossed by streams, rock walls and ample caves, all covered in lush vegetation that takes on the typical lovely seasonal colours of the autumn foliage. The park is a peaceful oasis where you can rediscover your dimension in front of a nature to be enjoyed thanks to the various hiking paths (of varying difficulty) or during a simple walk to take in the emerald colour of the lakes and enjoy the cool air of the woods. 3 – Parco Sigurtà: Located just half an hour from Verona, we find the marvellous Parco Sigurtà in Valeggio sul Mincio. Famous for its colourful blossoms in spring, it is an unmissable destination to admire the autumn foliage too. The Park dates back to 1407 and, over the years, it has become a veritable oasis boasting a varied flora which is also interesting from a botanical point of view. The Park also offers a vast calendar of events for children and adults throughout the year. More info at: www.sigurta.it

4 – San Zeno di Montagna: a town located between Lake Garda and Monte Baldo – a natural panoramic terrace directly overlooking the lake that boasts extraordinary fiery sunsets every day. In addition, it is surrounded by woods that explode in a wealth of colours in autumn. You can even take part in the harvesting of chestnuts”. The town of San Zeno di Montagna organizes a chestnut festival every year, which has now become a fixed event to welcome the arrival of the autumn season. More info at: www.marronedisanzeno.it

A wine that we recommend for this period?

The BARDOLINO DOP of the Ca ‘de’ Rocchi line. A wine that has a delicate bouquet with fruity notes, mostly cherries and marasca cherries. It is fresh and harmonious, it stands out for its excellent drinkability.
