St. Valentine’s Day is upon us and it is the ideal moment to organize a lovely romantic weekend in Verona, the city that was the setting of that quintessential love story… the one between Romeo a Montague and Juliet a Capulet.
Today, we have come up with some recommendations on how to spend your romantic getaway in Verona.
1) For the romantics: Visit the home of Juliet.
The hub of St. Valentine’s Day events in Verona. A crowd of sweethearts, both young and not so young, visit the courtyard of the Capulet home: there are those who have their picture taken with the statue, those who leave a message on the wall of lovers and those who visit the museum for a photo on the famous balcony. Throughout St. Valentine’s week, couples can enjoy numerous promotions including visits to Juliet’s house and the various city museums.

2) For sports enthusiasts: Take part in the Romeo e Giulietta Half Marathon on 12th February 2023.
The Arena, the Adige river, Piazza delle Erbe, Juliet’s House, Castelvecchio, Ponte Pietra, Porta Borsari and much more. Running in Verona means travelling through history in one of Italy’s most romantic art cities.
Romeo and Juliet and their tragedy narrated by William Shakespeare becomes one of the most fascinating half marathons in the world. An international race which, in 2014 and 2020, was the home to the Italian championships and has always been one of the races with the highest number of participants in Italy. The route is certified and the fastest ever passing through both the centre and many other parts of the city.

3) For the sweet-toothed: Taste the Baci di Romeo e Giulietta.
Among the many Italian recipes inspired by a kiss, we have the typical Verona biscuits, Romeo and Juliet’s kisses. They are crumbly biscuits in a half-heart shape made of rice flower, almonds and hazelnuts with the addition of cocoa for Romeo’s kisses and held together by chocolate ganache. You will find them in all the pastry shops in the city centre and tradition has it that ladies give Juliet’s kisses as a gift to their lovers while gentlemen present their beloved with Romeo’s kisses.
