Today we learn more about one of our most important, beloved and award-winning wines: Amarone della Valpolicella Docg La Bastìa from the Ca’ De’ Rocchi range.
The colour is a deep red with pomegranate highlights. The aroma reveals the grape varieties used: Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, local to the Valpolicella area, as well as grapes representative of the Verona province.
The spectrum of aromas is very intense and includes various red fruits starting with cherries evolving into jam and marasca cherries. There is also a slight balsamic note. The wine also presents tertiary aromas developed through an up to 24-month ageing process in French and American oak barrels: chocolate, leather and vanilla.
Rich palate. It is a full-bodied, balanced and elegant wine.
It can be paired with strong-tasting meats such as beef or mutton, especially grilled red meats and with sauces. It also pairs well with mature cheeses and dark chocolate if drank as a sipping wine.
